Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0has claimed he saved Ayatollah Ali Khamenei from an \u201cugly\u201d and disgraceful death, as the\u00a0Iranian<\/a>\u00a0Supreme Leader remains in hiding since the start of the 12-day war between Iran and\u00a0Israel<\/a>. Though Khamenei has not been seen in public, in a televised address aired on Thursday, he declared Iran had \u201cdealt a hard slap to America\u2019s face\u201d.<\/p>\n

His comments triggered backlash from the US President, who on Friday said he knew \u201cexactly where he [Khamenei] was sheltered, and would not let\u00a0Israel<\/a>, or the US Armed Forces\u2026 terminate his life\u201d. On his Truth Social channel, Mr Trump said: \u201cI SAVED HIM FROM A VERY UGLY AND IGNOMINIOUS DEATH. And he does not have to say, \u2018THANK YOU, PRESIDENT TRUMP!\u2019\u201d The president said he saved the life of the leader by ordering Israeli jets to do a U-turn while en route to assassinate him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

According to Mr Trump, he saved the Ayatollah\u2019s life because he \u201cwould not let\u00a0Israel<\/a>, or the US Armed Forces, by far the Greatest and Most Powerful in the World, terminate his life\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn fact, in the final act of the War, I demanded that\u00a0Israel<\/a>\u00a0bring back a very large group of planes, which were heading directly to Tehran, looking for a big day, perhaps the final knockout!\u201d he explained. \u201cTremendous damage would have ensued, and many Iranians would have been killed. It was going to be the biggest attack of the War, by far.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also accused Khamenei of wilfully lying to the Iranian people: \u201cWhy would the so-called \u2018Supreme Leader,\u2019 Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, of the war torn Country of Iran, say so blatantly and foolishly that he won the War with\u00a0Israel<\/a>, when he knows his statement is a lie, it is not so,\u201d he said. \u201cAs a man of great faith, he is not supposed to lie.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
